Freedom of Information (FoI) Act
Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, all public authorities designated under the Act are obliged to adopt and maintain a publication scheme. The aim of the publication scheme is to set out:
- The classes of information they publish or intend to publish as a matter of course.
- How the information is, or is intended to be, published.
- Whether the material is, or is intended to be, made available to the public free of charge or on payment.
The purpose of the publication scheme is to ensure that a large amount of information is readily available to members of the public, i.e. without the need for specific consideration under the FoI Act and to inform the public of the extent of material that is available.
The Laboratory of Molecular Biology is an Institute of the Medical Research Council (MRC). The MRC’s FoI Publication Scheme sets out much of the information we hold and in what form (i.e. electronic, paper) and how to obtain this information.
