(collaboration with Dr. L. Riechmann and Dr. R.L. Williams).

Phage display has become a key technology for the selection and isolation of ligands and receptors. Remarkably, this has been achieved in the absence of detailed knowledge of either structure or function of the phage infectivity protein g3p, the major fusion partner in phage technology.

Phage selection picture

To gain a better understanding of molecular events during phage infection we dissected components of both the infectivity protein g3p and the two cellular receptors of phage infection (F'-pilus, TolA) and studied them and their interactions by ELISA as well NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography.
