Overall Purpose:

The undertake high quality research and to develop research and other skills

- With the group leader to discuss research plans and results
- With other members of the group to learn new techniques and discuss methods
- With researchers, students and research support staff across the LMB to benefit from their expertise
- With external collaborators, as appropriate

Main Duties:
|
- To develop and deliver an exciting research project
- To identify, develop and apply a broad range of techniques to pursue the research objectives
- To contribute to group discussions on developments in the field
- To present scientific work at seminars within the Laboratory and at external conferences
- To prepare scientific papers for publication
- To contribute to the LMB’s mission in the public engagement of science, and the translation of research findings into improvements in health care.
- To assist in the training of PhD students and others in the group

Key Responsibilities:

To develop and implement research plans and publish the findings in peer reviewed journals
- To introduce and develop new techniques and novel approaches as required
- To ensure the research is carried out in accordance with good research practice and in compliance with local policies and legal requirements
- To contribute to the smooth running of the group
- To enhance own research and generic skills through a tailored development programme

This is a training and development position, as a Career Development Fellow (CDF), for a post doctoral research scientist who has recently completed their doctoral studies, is moving into a new research discipline or who has limited experience in key transferable skills. We support CDFs with a range of formal and on-the job training including
- MRC training courses
- External training and personal development courses
- One-to-one training with group leader and other scientists
As an MRC CDF the post holder is expected to
- Develop and follow a personal development plan
- Attend training courses
- Identify additional training which will support them to develop their career
