They a number of crystal and NMR structures of spliceosome components, and elucidated high resolution cryo-EM structures of the entire spliceosome at different stages of catalysis. These structures provide a framework for dissecting the mechanism of pre-mRNA splicing.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Kiyoshi passed away in September 2019 and you can read more about his life and work in his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk\/kiyoshi-nagai-1949-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LMB obituary<\/a>\u00a0and some personal reflections published by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cell.com\/cell\/fulltext\/S0092-8674(19)31320-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cell<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41594-019-0361-4?WT.ec_id=NSMB-202001&amp;mkt-key=005056B0331B1EE791E66C0896BF2F7F&amp;sap-outbound-id=ADDF237E6197EBDEB42A53CED3453D01BEE86E42\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NSMB<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.rnasociety.org\/conferences\/rna-2020\/in-memory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The RNA Society<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a review article in\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/2073-4352\/11\/8\/948\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Crystals<\/a><\/em>\u00a0written by Adelaine Leung, a former PhD student in Kiyoshi Nagai\u2019s lab and co-authored by other former Nagai lab members. It is a dedication to their friends and mentors Kiyoshi Nagai and Chris Oubridge, who are sorely missed. It summarises the lab\u2019s vision, immense amounts of work and sometimes crazy ideas to unravel and understand the mechanism of splicing using X-ray crystallography before the Cryo-EM revolution.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/royalsocietypublishing.org\/doi\/10.1098\/rsbm.2021.0043\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Royal Society Biographical Memoir of Kiyoshi Nagai<\/a>\u00a0was published in 2022.
