I completed a MSc in Neuroscience with distinction in King’s College London. For my MSc project with Caroline Vance, I studied the abnormal aggregation properties caused by mutations in profilin-1, an actin-binding protein associated with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). I was awarded the Noreen Murray international studentship to pursue a PhD with Christopher Shaw and Bradley Smith. I was involved in efforts to identify and characterise novel ALS candidate genes derived from whole-exome sequencing. It was during that time that I developed a strong interest in human genetics, neuronal and RNA biology. In the end of 2018, I joined Simon’s group on an AstraZeneca/LMB Blue Sky postdoctoral fellowship. We are aiming to identify novel regulators of dynein-mediated trafficking to shed light onto the basic mechanism of microtubule-based transport, particularly in the context of neurons.
