Title : The Divided Brain

Category :

AM: “My final piece has two main parts to it. The first makes up the background; I have used a printing technique, to create a silhouette of the side view of a teenage head. Inside of this it has different patterns and textures made from the printing materials and these reflect the different parts of the teenage brain. For the second part I have drawn over the paint. Around the edge of the drawing there are all the negative feelings teenagers can have. Then coming off from these words are a series of lines which recreate the neurons in a brain. These then develop into a maze, of which is meant to replicate the struggles of a teenager and how they have to take particular care into thinking over tasks. In the middle of the maze is a heart and surrounding the heart are all the positive feelings teenagers can have. Finally there are three question marks emanating from the neurons at the front of the brain, this replicates the prefrontal cortex and how it is the last part to mature in a person. ”

Judges comments: “Excellent idea; fine execution by using a nice combination of colours, texture and patterns.”
