Title : Psychological

Category :

CV: “Image Maker on Calico. Self Portrait taken for A Level Photography course. Mixed Media Collage. I am interested in Art and in particular Photography. Photography is a very important part of my life as it allows me to capture unexpected situations that may not be seen often; this aspect of luck excites me and encourages me to take my camera out and about with me, just in case a photo opportunity arises.”

Judges comments: “A really interesting and well executed use of media, with a combination of interplay of personal objects and science, but a lack of rigour deprives the image of meaning.”

Title : Living Doll (The Crozier Effect)

Category :

CV: “I used Photoshop to manipulate a photo of my cousin. I previously researched works of the photographer Gary Crozier and I decided to create my own interpretation using Image Maker and Collage. Crozier usually photographs young girls and then manipulates the photos, to give the girls them doll-like features. For example, larger heads, smaller bodies, larger creepy eyes and smaller noses and mouths. This piece in particular was my unit 3 exam piece, which I was most pleased with. There is some embellishing and stitching for effect. I feel my work links in with 'The Teenage Brain' title as the portrait is of a teenage girl and I wanted to play on the idea of pressures in society to look a certain way, almost doll-like and perfect. However, sometimes this idea leads to mental illnesses. I feel this is portrayed by the way in which my piece looks demonic and callous, and mental issues can have devastating effects and a mental illness, in my opinion, would be like a demon in the br ain, which affects everyday life.”

Judges comments: “A strong, inventive, design, quietly impactful, with good reference to other artists. Science is lacking.”
