Janina Baumbach, postdoctoral fellow
I did my degree in Biochemistry at the University of Tübingen in Germany. During my studies I did a summer internship in Petros Ligoxygakis’ group at the Department of Biochemistry in Oxford studying innate immunity in Drosophila. I came back to Tübingen for my Masters research project for which I undertook a genetic screen to identify genes involved in germ cell migration in Drosophila in Andrew Renault’s lab at the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology. After graduating with a Masters degree in 2009, I joined Jordan Raff’s lab at the University of Oxford for my PhD. In Jordan’s lab I investigated how centrosomes are formed and which consequences the loss of centrosomes has using Drosophila as a model system. I received my PhD in December 2013 and joined Simon’s lab in early 2014. My research focuses on the investigation of cytoskeletal transport mechanisms using in-vitro motility assays.
