Title : Helpless
Category : The Teenage Brain
EB: “For my final piece I wanted to express an emotion that I was pretty sure everyone would feel during their teenage years. That emotion is helplessness. After all, you have no control over the bodily changes that happen at this time, and no matter how uncomfortable, disturbing and awkward these things may be, there is nothing we can do about it. I wanted to combine this idea with a theme or image that was more appealing to the inner dreamer and conjurer of fantasies with in us all so I used a dragon to represent the problems we face and the hanging form of a naked woman to embody all of our purity, delicacy and vulnerability. The design for my dragon was inspired by some of Thomas Wievegg's work which I came across whilst doing research. I liked the detail in them and I thought the general look of his dragons would be just what I needed in my piece.”
