KH: “For my final piece I decided to focus on Parkinson’s Disease and how it affects the brain. For my first piece I decided to paint a brain on canvas and have words coming out of the sides of the brain, these words being associated with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease.
My second piece is also concerned with Parkinson’s and which parts of the brain are affected and what it makes you lose: memory, movement and how that causes anxiety.
I found this project very enjoyable; I liked researching all the diseases to figure out what to base my work on. I learned a lot about the brain and how it functions and how other artists present this kind of work.”
Judges comments: “Strong link to the theme through the choice of pharmaceutical bottle tops as a physical material. Would of benefited with further editing and thought about the inclusion of text.”
