DC: “My final piece is based on neurons and cells, and the way they create a pattern. I chose to use teabags to represent the cells and filled them with raw felt fibres. A main inspiration for my piece was Yayoi Kusama; I looked at the way she presents her work and how she involves the viewer in her pieces. In order to get the sense of the viewer being involved but in a smaller scale, I hung the teabags inside a foiled box in order the see reflections of the teabags. So that the viewer was able to see in I cut holes in the box so people could look in a get the sense of being involved with the piece.”
Judges comments: “Excellent mix of materials. Good technique, exploiting a 3rd dimension and inviting the viewer to explore the piece.”
