Title : The Memory Diagram
Category : Memory
SM: “I have met the assignment brief by reflecting on memories separate meanings by representing them as different coloured feelings/meanings. Gender is represented by blue for boys and pink for girls; the memory of feelings is represented by stripped colours. Black, grey and white represent the world as it really is and I have used lots of vibrant colours to reflect the diversity of a knowledgeable mind.
I used block printing to drag the paint and create some interesting effects for the feelings piece and the knowledge piece I used a wave effect technique and utilised paint sprinkles and paint flicks respectively. I also used paint flicks on the gender piece as I think it really adds a sense of fun. I used a series of individual swirls for the world piece which created a pleasing soft effect.
Materials used were card in contrasting colours, acrylic paint, a paint knife and a gold pen.”
Judges comments: “An interesting and well-executed approach that employs the philosophical lens of the four humours to interpret memory.”
