Title : Alzheimer’s Disease
Category : Memory
Highly Commended
DZ: “The coloured brain images represent how the memory shrinks with the disorder, step by step, year after year, memory after memory. It starts with the full coloured image until arriving at the black and white one, which means that it is gone.
Another important player is the straw that plays the most important part in this piece. The construction starts with plenty of connections and finishes with none. One part that is not connected anymore, something that you can’t attach anymore, same as Alzheimer’s Disease.
With special thanks to Hossein Najafi.”
Judges comments: “The sculptural form conveys the science and theme in a clear and assessable manner. It would be interesting to see the artist exploring less literal ways of illustrating some aspects of the theme and editing the work further.”
