Kyle Nickel, PhD student
I grew up in Alberta, Canada, and completed my Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology at the University of Alberta in 2020. Following my undergrad, I spent some time doing non-scientific pursuits, such as tree planting and travelling. However, science drew me back in, and I completed an MSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Calgary. In my MSc, I investigated the genetic interactions underlying the regulation of centriole biogenesis in Maja Tarailo-Graovac’s lab. My MSc research piqued my interest in mechanistic cell biology which has brought me to the Bullock lab, where I began my PhD in October 2024. My current research, which is funded by the Gates Foundation, works to understand the function of RNA binding proteins in mRNA localisation.
