Our manuscript linking dynein-driven organelle positioning to gene expression during oxidative stress is available at bioRxiv!

18th March 2026

In work led by Lucas, we reveal that perinuclear positioning of multiple organelles contributes to adaptive gene expression in response to oxidative stress. You can read more here.

Many congrats to Sabila for passing her PhD viva with flying colours!

21st February 2026

Congratulations Dr Chilaeva! Sabila’s work with Mark and the Carter lab sheds light on the molecular basis of recognition of diverse localising mRNAs by the transport machinery!

Our work with the Carter lab revealing the structural basis for recognition of diverse localizing mRNAs is preprinted!

15th August 2025

Kashish, Sabila and Mark combine cryo-EM, single-molecule reconstitution assays and functional studies in vivo to reveal how specificity is achieved during dynein-based mRNA transport. You can read more here.

David’s paper on disease-associated and serendipitous dynein mutations is published!

18th July 2024

David’s preprint is now published as a research article in JCB. The work, which was a collaboration with several groups, provides insights into the organismal and cellular effects of disease-associated mutations in dynein and reveals a non-canonical, load-related role of the motor in mitotic progression.

Wong’s paper describing a genome-wide screen for dynein regulators in human cells is published!

21st February 2024

Congratulations to Wong and our collaborators at AstraZeneca! You can read the manuscript here.

Our work on motor regulation in dynein- and kinesin-bound RNPs is published!

31st January 2024

Our collaborative work with the Ephrussi lab at EMBL on regulation of kinesin-1 by Tm1 is published. This includes reconstitution of dynein and kinesin motors bound to a native cargo! You can read more here.

Our paper on HEATR5B is published!

27th September 2023

The work of Vanesa, Lucas, Lily and many terrific collaborators identifying HEATR5B as a novel player in dynein-based trafficking of endosomal membranes has been accepted for publication. You can read the paper here.

David’s preprint is posted at bioRxiv

4th August 2023

David Salvador Garcia’s PhD work has been posted (see Publications page for details). David combined genetics and biochemistry to shed light on the effects of dynein disease-associated mutations, as well as of a novel, force-sensitive mutation in the microtubule binding domain. The latter mutation provides evidence of a novel role of dynein in anaphase progression. […]
