A mission to Mars and how the first life on Earth survived its biggest threat – water

A Nature News Feature about origin of life chemistry, including key work by John Sutherland’s group, and selection of the specific destination of a NASA mission to Mars in February. John was also one of the scientists who lobbied NASA to visit Jezero Crater as this crater is thought to have once been a lake and could have hosted the prebiotic chemistry that John’s group studies. LMB Postdoc Claudia Bonfio is also quoted in explaining the research that underpins the identification of the environment thought most likely to have enabled the prebiotic chemistry required for life.
