Lori Passmore receives EMBO Young Investigator Programme Award

Published on 13 November, 2014

lorri_passmore_215MRC: Martin PhelpsLMB group leader, Lori Passmore, has been elected into the 2014 EMBO Young Investigator Programme. This prestigious programme recognises some of Europe’s best young scientists and provides academic, practical and financial support to help them realise their potential as world-class researchers.

This year 27 Young Investigators have been elected. Lori joins a vibrant and broad network of over 340 Young Investigators from all over Europe.

Lori, from the LMB’s Structural Studies Division, is studying the molecular mechanisms of multi-protein complexes, especially those involved in the addition and removal of mRNA Poly(A) tails. Using electron cryo-microscopy (cryo-EM), X-ray crystallography and other techniques, Lori is determining the structures of these multi protein complexes, researching their molecular mechanisms, activities and regulation to understand how they regulate gene expression. She is also developing new methods with cryo-EM to help determine protein structure.
