Dr Rebecca Voorhees, a student and Career Development Fellow at the LMB, has been awarded a Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellowship. The Fellowship will allow Rebecca to pursue a joint project working in the laboratories of Ramanujan Hegde, (LMB Cell Biology division) and Robert Keenan (University of Chicago, USA).
The annual Fellowships provide 12 of the brightest newly qualified researchers, working in the best laboratories in the UK and overseas, with support to help them to pursue important biomedical research questions. The awards provide £250,000 over four years and this year’s winners include researchers working in a wide range of countries such as the UK, USA, Italy and Norway.
Dr Candy Hassall, Head of Basic Careers at the Wellcome Trust said: “We have had a large number of applications, and it is pleasing to see such strong women and men supported at the start of their independent research careers.”
Rebecca comments: “I am very grateful for this tremendous opportunity from the Wellcome Trust, which will allow me to pursue an innovative and collaborative project that would not be otherwise possible. The LMB provides the ideal environment for this type of challenging research.”
