The legacy of Fred Sanger – 100 years on from 1918

This August marks the centenary of the birth of Fred Sanger, LMB alumnus and one of the most influential scientists of the twentieth century. By devising methods for sequencing Fred revolutionised our understanding of both proteins and nucleic acids gaining the Nobel Prize in Chemistry twice – the only scientist to ever have achieved this honour.
