The musical talents of LMB staff and students were on show during the first LMB Musical Soirée, a fun and informal cabaret-style evening of musical entertainment held in the LMB’s atrium. The event was a great success, with around 100 attendees and a variety of inspiring performances full of heartfelt melodic lines and brilliant instrumental textures.

It is no secret that there are many artistic people working in the LMB. This has been showcased in the end of year pantomime skits and in the LMB art displays. Following the successful Artist in Residence event last year, which featured music from a grand piano, numerous people commented on the good acoustics the LMB atrium offers.  This led to a decision by the LMB Wellbeing Champions to hold an LMB Musical Soirée, an evening of musical entertainment that would showcase the musical talents of our staff, and at the same time, entertain everyone.

The programme featured a variety of vocal and instrumental performers from all four divisions, with talented singers and soloists on violin, clarinet, piano, cornet, and flute. Musical styles included everything from traditional jigs and reels to classical showpieces and contemporary compositions. The event was brought to a close by the Rushing Roulotte quartet playing a selection of original gypsy jazz arrangements for vocals, tenor saxophone, guitar and double bass.

There is a strong connection between an event of this sort and general wellbeing and it is hoped that as a consequence of the Soirée other equally great ideas will be generated for future events.
