Kim, who is currently the Whitley Chair at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Oxford and a fellow of Trinity College, has made hugely valuable contributions to the life sciences. He revealed the sophisticated mechanism that mediates the perilous separation of duplicated chromosomes during cell division and thereby prevents genetic diseases such as cancer. After his PhD and a fellowship at Cold Spring Harbor, he was a member of staff at the LMB.
