Royal Society Summer Science Exhibitions

Each year the Royal Society holds an annual summer science exhibition that showcases the most exciting cutting-edge science and technology research. It provides a unique opportunity for the public to meet and question scientists about their work. Recent LMB exhibitions include:

In 2013 Leo James’ exhibit explored how cells are able to use antibodies to fight back against invading viruses.

In 2010 Brad Amos’ exhibit showcased the mesolens, a new and unique microscope with a giant lens that can examine thousands of cells and the detail in each cell at the same time.

Can worms unlock the secrets of our minds?
In 2008 Mario de Bono and Bill Schafer’s exhibit explored how the nematode worm, C. elegans, is being used to understand how the nervous system generates behaviour.

The body’s daily clock
In 2006 Michael Hastings, Elizabeth Maywood and John O’Brien’s exhibit demonstrated how scientists are attempting to unpick the genetic control of our body clocks (also known as our circadian rhythm), which impacts cancer, sleep disorders and jet lag.

LMB scientists have also been recognised by the Royal Society through election to the Fellowship and through various medals, awards and prize lectures.
