Akaash Kumar awarded Ph.D. Prize from Cambridge Centre for Physical Biology

Akaash was recognised for his work in the LMB’s Cell Biology Division, where he developed novel, multispectral imaging hardware plus a complementary algorithm, which together are capable of rapid, live-cell imaging of up to eight biological components simultaneously. This work promises to address longstanding issues with fluorescence microscopy to better equip the technique for in-depth, cellular studies. More…

Targeting Intracellular Tau Aggregates for Destruction

A piece in Alzforum highlights two new therapeutics that degrade tau aggregates and improve symptoms of neurodegeneration in mice. The technology has been developed by Leo James’ group, in the LMB’s PNAC Division, and Will McEwan’s group at the UK Dementia Research Institute at the University of Cambridge. More…

Members of LMB fundraise and take part in first CBC 5km, 10km and Fun Run

Members of the LMB joined almost 700 fellow runners to take part in the first Cambridge Biomedical Campus 5km, 10km and Fun Run on Sunday 1st September. LMB runners included Adam Mayes, who raised over £1000 for Bike the UK for MS, running in an LMBee costume. The runners medal featured the DNA double helix and monoclonal antibody –impactful discoveries made by LMB scientists that have improved health. More…

Cryo-EM grids developed by Katerina Naydenova and Chris Russo win at the 2024 Microscopy Today Innovation Awards

The gold HexAuFoil® grids, developed by Katerina Naydenova and Chris Russo in the LMB’s Structural Studies Division, eliminate specimen movement during cryo-EM imaging and can be produced to meet the huge global demand. The HexAuFoil® grids, which were licensed to Quantifoil Micro Tools GmbH, are one of ten winners at the 2024 Microscopy Today Innovation Awards which recognise products and technologies which advance the field of microscopy. A successful charity cake sale at the LMB for the Raymond Nicolet Trust

The Raymond Nicolet Trust organised a charity cake sale at the LMB on Monday 29th April. Volunteers baked a variety of different cakes and successfully raised £342.36. All proceedings are going to support The Sveti Sava Elementary School, Bajina Basta in Serbia. Thank you so much to everyone who helped! More…
