Complete fly brain images at nanoscale resolution

A neuroscience milestone: a high-resolution digital snapshot of the adult fruit fly brain.  Researchers can now trace the path of any one neuron to any other neuron throughout the whole brain.  The research, lead by a team of scientists at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Janelia Research Campus, required the collaboration of dozens of other scientists, including at Johns Hopkins University and in Greg Jefferis group at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology. The legacy of Fred Sanger – 100 years on from 1918

This August marks the centenary of the birth of Fred Sanger, LMB alumnus and one of the most influential scientists of the twentieth century. By devising methods for sequencing Fred revolutionised our understanding of both proteins and nucleic acids gaining the Nobel Prize in Chemistry twice – the only scientist to ever have achieved this honour.
