Scientists in Cambridgeshire are to lead a £3.6m project looking at the effects of ageing on immunity systems

“The Babraham Institute has received the funds from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council. The project will study how changes to lymphocyte, a white blood cell, contribute to weakening immune systems. The institute will carry out the research over five years with partners from Cambridge University and the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology.” More…

Leverhulme artist in residence at LMB

A roll of the dice: tenure or non-tenure

“Sean Eddy, a leader in computational genomics at the Howard Hughes Medical Institutes who is facing his first cyclical review, says the uncertainty over his future never keeps him up at night. He adds that tenure, which is especially coveted in the US, comes with its own job-related anxieties. The campus’ chief executive Gerry Rubin points out that the cyclical review model is not new.
