Introduction to Animal Research
Why do LMB scientists use rodents in their research?
Where there are no suitable alternatives, LMB scientists use mice and rats in their research, with the aim of identifying new therapies and cures.
All work involving animals at the LMB is undertaken by fully trained staff in accordance with Government guidelines (ASPA) and with the aim of fulfilling the principles of the 3Rs
Whenever possible LMB scientists utilise cell culture as an alternative to using animals, or use invertebrates (e.g. fruit flies and worms) to replace rodents.
