Technician Commitment

The LMB became a signatory of the Technician Commitment in November 2022.

We employ over 150 technical staff in a wide variety of roles. Technicians and technical specialists may work in one of our specialist scientific facilities or support services or work directly within research groups.

Our technical staff are outstanding, and you can read more about how we recognise their contribution through the annual Eileen Southgate Prize.

Feedback from the LMB technical community has enabled us to create a two-year action plan that is unique and relevant to our technical staff. Seven high priority areas have been identified:

  1. Career pathways for technical staff
  2. Career and professional development guidance
  3. Professional registration through the Science Council and Engineering Council
  4. Technical authorship and acknowledgement
  5. Promotion of the work and contributions made by technicians
  6. Annual technician week
  7. External visibility
