Introduction to Animal Research

mouse on DNA

Why do LMB scientists use rodents in their research?

Where there are no suitable alternatives, LMB scientists use mice and rats in their research, with the aim of identifying new therapies and cures.

Whenever possible LMB scientists utilise cell culture as an alternative to using animals, or use invertebrates (e.g. fruit flies and worms) to replace rodents.
